Our tenth VISUM newsletter!
Hello November! Let’s start the month with exciting events. And keep in mind – it is the penultimate week of VISUM. It would be amazing to see as many as you as possible at our last events!
We will kick off the week with our last Stammtisch of the semester. Our VISUM Farewell – VISUM Ciao Ciao Ciao Stammtisch! The reason for this name is due to one of our specials this evening:
Time flies and the exams are coming. Therefore, the VISUM semester will soon come to an end. But of course we will have one last traditional VISUM Stammtisch!
Let’s say VISUM Ciao Ciao Ciao altogether, before we bid farewell and continue to winter break! We are going to review the whole VISUM semester with all its highlights in a slide show where we’ll look back at the best events with you. But we also want to see your favorite moments of your time in Mannheim so far. So please send us your funniest, most beautiful travel pictures, your “Mannheim moments” or just whatever picture you connect with your time here to

Tomorrow evening you will also have the chance to spread some Christmas spirit because our Social Erasmus team will collect objects for their charity project “Christmas in a shoebox”. Read more about it down below.

Would you like to make the most out of this Christmas season? In addition to the exciting festivities of this long awaited holiday, why not do some good and share the love? We, from Social Erasmus, would like to invite you to participate in our “Christmas in a Shoebox” project! With this project, we do our best to collect items in a shoebox, and send them as Christmas gifts to those around us in our community who are less fortunate- those who otherwise might not be able to enjoy Christmas gifts.
It doesn’t take much effort to participate! All you need to do is come to our gift collection station and drop off your items!
Here are some ideas:Clothing (self-knitted is fine too!), stuffed animals, hygiene products (Creme, Deo, shower gel, shampoo,..), Toys (Jojo, Car, Ball,..), sweets in their original package, school items (Picture books, Pencils, Rulers,..)
Not allowed are:
Used items of any kind; especially clothing, foods and sweets with herbal filling (nut chocolate, popcorn, ginger bread, muesli bar,..), Fruits and Vegetables, medicines, sharp and dangerous items (knives, sharp scissors), liquids that easily run out (as soap bubbles) and extreme smelly soap, gambling cards, anxiety causing things as war toys, magic items, literature, cash money

On Wednesday it is time for our last Café Lingua where you will have the chance to practice your German skills together with natives. You can come whatever level of German you might have (even if you have none)!
Evil tongues say that life is too short to learn German.
Whoever came up with this quote obviously has no clue what he is talking about. Who could possibly resist the temptation of becoming fluent in this beautifully melodic and yet easy to learn language … a language conveying eloquence in all its sounds!
If that is how you (almost) feel about learning German, our Café Lingua German might be for you!
As part of this event, you can practice your German together with native speakers and teach them some of your native language in exchange.
You’re welcome to join no matter your proficiency or experience. Also, there will be free snacks and drinks … so don’t miss out on this fun event and sign up now!

On Friday we will have a tour through the worlds’ biggest chemical concern the BASF. Unfortunately, all the spots for the tour are already taken. If you registered and you realise you won’t make it – please let us know in advance so we can give your spot to someone else!

Die Zeit fliegt und die Klausurenphase kommt! Deswegen nähert sich das VISUM Semester seinem Ende.

Am selben Abend auf unserem Stammtisch werdet ihr auch die Gelegenheit haben etwas Gutes zu tun!

Würdet auch ihr euch gerne das Beste aus der Weihnachtszeit machen? Warum also nicht neben den aufregenden Festivitäten und den lang ersehnten Ferien etwas Gutes tun? Wir, von Social Erasmus, laden euch herzlich dazu ein, am Projekt "Weihnachten im Schuhkarton" teilzunehmen! Für dieses Projekt sammeln wir Gegenstände, die in Schuhkartons verpackt, an die benachteiligten Kinder unserer Gesellschaft verteilt werden – an die, die andernfalls nicht in den Genuss von Geschenken an Weihnachten kommen würden.
Hier ein paar Ideen:
Kleidung (gerne auch selbstgenähtes oder gestricktes), Kuscheltier, Hygieneartikel (Creme, Deo, Duschgel & Shampoo,..), Spielzeug (Jojo, Auto, Ball,..), originalverpackte Süßigkeiten, Schulmaterialien (Bilderbuch, Stifte, Lineal,..)
Nicht erlaubt sind:
Gebrauchte Gegenstände jeder Art, insbes. Kleidung, Lebensmittel und Süßigkeiten mit pflanzlichen Füllungen (wie Nussschokolade, Popcorn, Lebkuchen, Müsliriegel etc.), Obst und Gemüse, Medikamente und Vitaminbrausetabletten, Zerbrechliche Gegenstände, Scharfe, spitze und andere gefährliche Gegenstände (z. B. Messer, spitze Schere), Flüssigkeiten, die leicht auslaufen (z.B. Seifenblasen) und stark riechende Seife (nur einpacken, wenn "duftsicher" verpackt), Glücksspielkarten (z. B. Skat), angstauslösende Dinge wie Kriegsspielzeug, Hexerei- und Zaubereiartikel, Literatur jeder Art, Bargeld
Es braucht nicht viel Aufwand, um teilzunehmen! Alles was ihr tun müsst, ist vorbeizuschauen und ein kleines Geschenk an unserer Sammelstation dazulassen. Ihr könnt spenden, was ihr als hilfreich erachtet. Nur aufgepasst! Achtet darauf, dass die Gegenstände nicht abgenutzt sind.

Am Mittwoch ist unser letztes Café Lingua! Ein letztes Mal habt ihr die Gelegenheit anderen ein bisschen Deutsch beizubringen.
Böse Zungen behaupten, dass das Leben zu kurz sei, um Deutsch zu lernen. Doch wer auch immer sich dieses Zitat ausgedacht hat, weiß offenbar nicht, wovon er spricht.
Wer könnte bloß der Versuchung wiederstehen, diese wunderschön melodische und zugleich kinderleicht erlenbare Sprache fließend zu meistern … eine Sprache, deren Klang vor Eloquenz nur so strotzt!
Wenn du (zumindest annähernd) diese Meinung über die deutsche Sprache teilst, bist du bei unserem Café Lingua Deutsch genau richtig.
Als Teil dieser Veranstaltung kannst du dein Deutsch gemeinsam mit Muttersprachlern trainieren und ihnen im Ausgleich ein paar Wörter deiner eigenen Sprache beibringen. Außerdem gibt es kostenlose Snacks und Getränke … also melde dich am besten gleich an!
